Getting your home ready for fall can be a daunting task, but here are a few things you can do to get you started.
- Clean your garage.
After a summer full of yard work your garage likely will have accumulated clutter and will need organizing and cleaning. First go through the remaining clutter and get rid of the obvious garbage. Next, get rid of anything that has not been used in two years. Take what is left over and identify how you plan to store it. Don’t overlook your wall space! Simple hooks will allow you to free up floor space and neatly organize your tools. - Clean up your yard and patio.
Cover your grill and any porous stone such as marble so it does not take damage over the winter. Store patio furniture and cushions in your garage. Trim any bushes and seed any bare spots in your lawn before the leaves begin to fall. Plant some bulbs like tulips and daffodils so you will have a nice Spring surprise! - Winter-proof your house.
If you own a home older than 10 years, check your windows for draftiness. If you are not ready to replace the windows yet then consider putting heavier drapes up to protect against the cold. Replace the doormats with a rougher variety to help knock mud off of shoes as you enter the house. And finally, break out the warm blankets and throws and keep some in each room of the house!
